Why Fast?
To renew our mindset, realign our desires and plans with God’s will, and refresh our faith.
What is Fasting?
Fasting is a spiritual discipline that helps us draw close to the Lord and experience growth in our faith. It focuses our attention on God and reminds us that He alone sustains us and meets our needs. Throughout biblical history, fasting usually involved abstaining from food (or specific items) for a certain period of time. It can also mean temporarily giving up an enjoyable habit or activity such as social media or entertainment. Whether fasting is done for a few hours, a day, or several weeks, this discipline creates time and space for the Lord to nourish our souls. It’s an opportunity to quiet our hearts and minds as we step away from the distraction of activity and the noise of our culture. It’s a time to pray big prayers while simultaneously surrendering our wills to Christ. Whether we need to be convicted, broken, healed, encouraged, humbled, awakened, strengthened, comforted, the list goes on….we can expect to be changed and renewed as we purposefully ask the Holy Spirit to move in our lives and make us more like Jesus.
